My “Ah Ha” moment

I was thinking yesterday about work, working from home, being a mom and all the work that comes along with that job and I started thinking about the things that I struggle with. One thing I realized is that I don’t blog much of my personal life on my business blog. There are some things that shouldn’t be shared, but I think there are others that should be. So, I’ve made a decision to start sharing some things.

Yesterday as I was in my laundry room, working away on the many loads that come my way, I started to think about my “To Do” list. The more I started to think about it, the more I started to realize how much I’m not a fan of them. Okay, I like the idea of them, the way they help me know what needs to get done that day or week, but I don’t like the feeling I get when items don’t get crossed off. I like how I feel when something gets completed, that positive, feel good vibe. I don’t like the failure feeling when something doesn’t get done. So from here on out, I’m changing that. To ensure I get the feel good feeling, I have decided to create a “Got Done” list. When I complete something, I will write it down. This way, I will see exactly what got done in my day and not what I still have to do.

I know that there will be days when I don’t have much written down, but I’m okay with that. At least I won’t have a list staring me in the face making me feel as though I’ve failed. I will still have a to do list because they definitely help with outlining what needs to be done, but its not going to be what my day is surrounded around. I’m going to focus on the things I’ve completed and be happy with my day. Here’s to feeling good about my accomplishments!

Our New Arrival-EJ

On October 10, 2010 we welcomed the newest member to our family.  Born at 8:13 pm, he weighed 7lbs 14oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.  And 100% perfect!  We were so excited to meet EJ.  When we first found out that we were pregnant and due around this time of month, we talked about how cool it would be to have a baby on 10/10/10.  I just knew that it wasn’t going to happen.  I tried to have Mallory on 06/07/08, but she decided to come one day later.  Well, much to my surprise, I started having contractions early in the morning and after 9 hours at the hospital, he arrived!  I always knew that I wanted to me a mom.  But never did I understand the love that a parent has for their child.  After Mallory was born, I understood.  Now that I have two, one of each, I can’t put it into words how awesome it is to be a mom.  My heart is bursting with love for my kids and I couldn’t ask for anything more!  I can say that my life is complete!

Pumpkin Picking

Sunday, we took our first trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin or two.  If kids show up in their costume, they get a free pumpkin and I just couldn’t resist not dressing Mallory up.  There was pumpkin picking, face painting, apple cider making, and just plain family fun!  We have a great time and here are few pictures from our fun morning.

A pumpkin just her size!

Polka Dots and Cupcakes

Yesterday was my baby girl’s first birthday party.  I absolutely cannot believe how quickly the time has gone by and that we have this beautiful little girl in our lives.  It has been a great first year and now we have this:

Okay, so before I get into the messy pictures too much, let’s talk about the day.  We had about 20 family and friends join us for the party.  We started with lunch and then a little present opening.  I was really hoping that Mallory would be excited about tearing the paper, but with all the people it just wasn’t happening.  Then we opened a learning fire engine that makes all sorts of noises, so all eyes and hands were on it.  Basically from then on, I did the rest of the opening.

In this picture she is showing us that she is more interested in the beads than gifts.

After presents were done, we handed out cupcakes and ice cream and got Mallory ready for her cake eating.  Once again, I had high hopes for what was about to come.  I know my child and I thought she would just dig in and make a huge mess.  Well, we did get a mess, just took about 30 minutes.  She was so danty with the cake.  She would get her hands ready like she was just going to rip it apart and then just barely touch the frosting.  I was so surprised, but she is a girl!

I almost forgot that I had party hats.  I got a few pictures with it on, but she really doesn’t like things on her head so it didn’t last too long!

After a bath, a nap, and a little bit of dinner, we decided to let Mallory have one more go with the cake.  Maybe she was a little shy the first time and since there was cake left, why not another taste.  This is the result from number 2.

And this:

This is the “Uh Oh!” face since she dumped the cake all over the place.  You should have seen the floor!  Needless to say, I finally got the result I had been waiting for and there was another bath to come!  Thanks to all who helped us celebrate!

Reflection

I Heart Faces

This week’s contest at i♥faces is reflection.  This isn’t a tradition reflection, but it is one.  I took this picture just this weekend.  The mom-to-be was relaxing on her bed when I realized I could capture her in the mirror.  If look closely at the bottom of the picture, you can see the frame of the mirror.  It was an amazing moment!

Fix It

I Heart Faces

I’m starting to love Fix It Fridays at i♥faces!  I love experimenting with photoshop and learning new tricks and action recipes.  For this week’s picture, here is the original:

melindafixit31In photoshop, I started by adjusting the levels and doing just a small cropping.  I really like the rock around this little boy and didn’t want to lose that.  Then, using TRA I used Derelicte and Oh Snap! to give you my finished product.  Here you go:
